Teenagers are consuming more media today than ever before as a result of the increase use of mobile devices. On average teenagers spend approximately 7.5 hours engaged with some form of media.
Much of this media emphasize the importance of being attractive and thin. This promotion of a “thin ideal” results in teenagers setting unrealistic expectations for themselves in terms of what they should look like.
This collision of “perception and reality” can cause many teenagers to develop:
Anxiety and depression
Low Self-esteem and self-worth
Unhealthy eating habits
Substance abuse, and
